Five Fun Family Tourist Locations Around Boone
1. Mystery Hill
Mystery Hill is located off of Highway 321 (Blowing Rock Rd) in between Boone and Blowing Rock. The site features three different museum exhibitions: the Appalachian Heritage Museum, a relocated and restored house which is home to a multitude of 19th century Appalachian furnishings and artifacts; the Native American Artifacts Museum, a collection of Native American relics; and the Hall of Mystery, an interactive exhibit featuring mysterious experiments and fun displays.
2. High Gravity Adventures
High Gravity Adventures is brand new to the area; its grand opening was Saturday, April 11th. The park shares its grounds with the famous Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock. A self-described “aerial adventure park,” High Gravity Adventures features mid-air ropes courses, swinging bridges, and nets. Both children and adults can explore the massive structure.
3. Screaming Ziplines
Screaming Ziplines is currently closed for the season, but they will reopen in June. There are a few other zipline companies in the area, but the very first one I ever went to was Screaming Ziplines. There are two zipline tour packages; both have six lines each, but the Original Tour’s longest line is about three football fields long while the Extreme Tour’s longest line is 2000 feet long!
4. The Swinging Bridge/Grandfather Mountain
The Swinging Bridge, located inside the Grandfather Mountain area in Linville, is probably one of the more recognizable tourist locations of the area. The bridge is a 228-foot suspension bridge that runs about one mile high. The experience of walking the bridge and the view from the other side is considered a major highlight of visiting Grandfather Mountain.
5. Blue Ridge Parkway
This one is a given, of course, but really any stop along the Blue Ridge Parkway makes for a memorable, beautiful family outing. Whether you’re picnicking at Price Lake, climbing over rocks at Hebron Rock Colony, or walking along one of the many hiking trails, the Blue Ridge Parkway is without a doubt the easiest and cheapest way for some family fun.
