In case you didn’t get it by our website’s name, we love Boone, North Carolina. So we decided to begin a list of 7 Great Things About Boone, North Carolina. The list will try and break through some of the more “Tourist-y” things and get to some of the Great Local Stuff.
This is not the typical 7 BEST things about Boone, North Carolina because that would just be too hard! Check out 7 Great Things below and then comment with your favorite things about Boone, North Carolina. Make sure to share this with your Facebook friends to get their opinion.
7. Grandfather Mountain
Yes, I just said that I would make this list too “Tourist-y” and then I went straight for one of the biggest tourist attractions of this area. But let me explain. Grandfather Mountain is just a fun place to go… Especially when the good folks up there run “Dollar Days” for all the locals. Let’s reclaim our wonderful attraction and use our adventurous spirit to take the hike up the mountain and enjoy the magnificent views.
6. Come Back Shack
There is nothing better than a good burger from one of our top ranked burger places in Boone. Come Back Shack can only be found in one place – Boone, North Carolina. We get the privilege to have an amazing local burgers and fries place on the mountain with us and, sometimes, they even give away $1 burgers on their birthday! If you haven’t been… stop reading and go now because it will change your life.
5. Bass Lake
The calm walk around Bass Lake has always been soothing to me. It is about 1 mile long and gives you just enough time to clear your head of all problems and stress. The view is nothing short of breath-taking. Do me a favor – don’t go this Saturday because I want it all to myself.
4. Stick Boy Bread Co.
Okay… we do have a small crush on this bakery. Established in Boone, North Carolina over a decade ago, Stick Boy has proven to be a true member of the community. They have been so successful that the owners opened a second location that serves full breakfast and lunch. The combination of a Stick Boy breakfast, Walk around Bass Lake, and Appalachian State Football game is sure to make you fall in love with Boone!
3. The Greenway Trail
Spanning from one end of Boone to the other, this trail provides an amazing place to walk, run, bike, and play. This trail is probably going to be one of the most busy places you visit because of its extreme popularity with the locals. My family is on the Greenway at least 3 times a week for walking, running, or biking.
2. Appalachian State University Sports
Part of living in Boone, North Carolina is living in a college town. Appalachian State University does nothing but grow grow grow. Personally, I love the fresh/new atmosphere that comes to town every semester change. There is a buzz in the area and, well, traffic at every stop light. Now that Appalachian State has moved up to a completely Division 1 sports program competing in the Sunbelt Conference, the sports will begin to be even better. In the near future Boone will see some big-time schools travel up the mountain for a very competitive matchup. While Football gets all the hype I also recommend checking out the Mountaineers Baseball team for a cheap Saturday activity that packs a lot of fun.
1. Small Mountain Town
Some may say that Boone, North Carolina is turning into another growing college town with the addition of things like IHOP, Chipotle, and continued growth of student housing. Although there has been some undeniable growth of big business in Boone, I still find many quaint little local spots to take my family and friends. Boone continues to be a small mountain town but has to adapt to a new way of living. What are your thoughts about our small mountain town?
