**This post is brought to you by Katie Hodges of our wonderful friends: High Country 365.
You would be surprised at the amount of good places to eat in the High Country. Although it is difficult to be a foodie in such a small town, pretty much anywhere you choose to eat out will be a satisfying experience.
My boyfriend and I always like experiencing new things and when deciding on where we were going to eat, we both came to the conclusion that it was time to give Char Modern American Restaurant a try. When we walked in, the atmosphere was very inviting and there were many patrons sitting down and enjoying their time together. The wait staff was extremely friendly and we were seated right away. As we started perusing the menu, every single item sounded amazing and which made it so hard for me to decide. I finally settled on the 4oz Grilled Filet and my boyfriend opted for the Seared Crispy Duck Breast.
While we waited, we decided to try one of their many tasty appetizers and after much debate; we landed on the Pesto Flatbread. It was absolutely delicious and the perfect amount for two to enjoy. The flatbread was arranged artfully on spinach leaves. Each flatbread piece was topped with a delightful basil pesto and fresh chopped sun dried tomatoes. There were pits of artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers and mushrooms that worked wonderfully with the goat cheese crumbles and Char’s balsamic reduction. I am huge fan of flat bread and everything that came on it, so I’d say that this was easily my favorite dish. Is your mouth watering yet?
Our waitress was extremely helpful and attentive which made our dining experience all the more enjoyable. As soon as our waitress came to our table with our main dishes, I let out a sigh, which means “Oh man, that looks so good!” when my plate was placed in front of me and so did Gill. My 4oz Grilled filet look succulent on a bed of tossed Swiss chard and roasted fingerling potatoes. The tenderloin was cooked to perfection and it was topped with sautéed wild mushrooms, shallots and garlic. It was the best filet I have had in a long time. Gill’s plate looked equally mouthwatering. This was his first time trying duck and he’ll definitely be getting it again. The duck had been sliced into very juicy portions on top of a bed of spicy Thai red curry and coconut cream sauce with sautéed red and green bell peppers, green beans, on top a large helping of jasmine rice. I devoured every single morsel of my meal and tried some of the duck that Gill had.
The quality of the food was very high. Everything tasted very fresh, so in retrospect, I would say that the cost of our meal was appropriate. I would recommend Char for those of you that enjoy unique dishes and upscale dining. Char would be a great place to celebrate a special day with family or friends. I would not have to think twice about going back to Char for another meal. I have heard great things about their Sunday Brunch and Lunch menu. Another bonus, they are on my High Country 365 Buy One Get One Dining Pass, so I will definitely be going back soon!
