Proper // Food Stop #1
Being a foodie in a small town can be difficult. Food exploration can be a limited mission. A true foodie is always on the hunt for that one local place with that one local item that is the best of the best. Boone may be limited in its amount of eateries but there is a local joint that does its part in making food exploration fun, enjoyable, and repeatable!
That is Proper. Located in downtown Boone, North Carolina right near Appalachian State University, Proper serves strictly Southern cuisine. Their website says it all: “Respectable, Correct, Genuine.” When you enter Proper you need to know one thing: You are about to enjoy some of the best food in the High Country. You may also be interested to know that you are in the old jailhouse that has been retrofitted to serve as a restaurant. The wait staff is always extremely educated on the food and ready to answer any questions you may have. There dishes rotate on days so make sure to call ahead and check out the specials for the day. I recommend the Pulled Pork which has a little spice from chipotle peppers and the normal southern sides (green beans, mashed potatoes, mac&cheese, butter beans, etc). Don’t forget to tell them you want a biscuit!
When you come to Boone, North Carolina I recommend Proper to be your first Food Stop.
